Plan Your Sandwich Making Shopping Trip

1 serving (2 oz) of meat per sandwich ⓘ why?
Every brand slices differently, so a serving might be 2 slices or 4. Check the nutrition label: it says something like "Serving size: 2 oz, 4 slices". That's one sandwich's worth of meat. The calculator already knows the slice weight for each brand listed here, but double-check the label if you buy a different brand.
2 slices per sandwich, one on each side of the meat.

Before you shop

  • Cheese: deli-style sliced only (Muenster, Havarti, Provolone, or a deli variety pack). No American cheese, Kraft singles, or individually wrapped slices.
  • Meat: pre-packaged only, nothing sliced at the deli counter. Turkey or chicken, preferably no ham: most of the communities our partners serve can't eat it.
  • Bring a cooler with ice packs to the store so the meat and cheese stay cold on the drive home.
